Micropigmentation has become one of the most in-demand aesthetic treatments in recent years. However, many people interested in this technique still have doubts about what the procedure is really like and what exactly happens on the day of the treatment.
One of the keys to achieving a natural and personalized result is that micropigmentation does not start directly by pigmenting the skin. Before starting, a preliminary design is always created to define the shape, color, and final result.
In this article, we explain what the micropigmentation process is like step by step, from the initial explanation to the final review of the treatment.
One of the most important aspects of any micropigmentation treatment is the preliminary design on the skin. This step allows you to visualize the result before starting pigmentation and ensures that the treatment perfectly adapts to the features of the face or the area to be treated.
Each person has a different physiognomy, so the design must take into account factors such as:
- facial symmetry
- the natural shape of the eyebrows or lips
- facial expression
- skin and hair tone
This process is applied both in eyebrow micropigmentation treatments and in permanent eyeliner techniques or in more specific procedures such as lip micropigmentation.
The goal is always the same: to achieve a harmonious and natural result that respects each person's aesthetics.
Although each treatment may vary slightly depending on the area, the general procedure follows a series of very clear steps that allow working with precision and safety.
Before starting, the specialist explains in detail how the treatment will be carried out and answers all questions that may arise.
In this first phase, aspects such as the following are discussed:
- the technique that will be used
- the approximate duration of the session
- the evolution of the pigment in the following days
This moment also serves to define expectations and ensure that the result the client is looking for is realistic and suitable for their skin type.
Once the procedure has been explained, a soothing cream is applied to the area to be treated.
This ointment helps to minimize possible discomfort during the session and usually takes effect for about 10 minutes before starting the micropigmentation work.
Thanks to this step, the treatment is perfectly tolerable for anyone.
The next step is probably the most important of the procedure: the preliminary design with a pencil on the skin.
In this phase, the specialist draws the shape that the final result will have. This design allows the result to be visualized before performing the micropigmentation and to adjust any detail.
Depending on the treatment, the design may vary:
· definition of the eyebrow shape
· drawing of the eyeliner line
· definition of the lip contour
· recreation of the frontal line in hair treatments
· reconstruction of areolas in paramedical procedures
For example, in hair micropigmentation the frontal line is carefully designed to achieve a natural result, while in areola micropigmentation the design aims to restore symmetry and the natural appearance of the area.
Once the drawing is done, it is reviewed together with the client to ensure that the shape, proportions and style are as desired.
At this point it is possible to adjust different aspects such as:
- thickness
- shape
- symmetry
- design intensity
The goal is for the person to feel completely comfortable with the result before starting the micropigmentation.
Once the design has been approved, the pigment implantation process begins, following exactly the lines of the preliminary drawing.
This method allows working with great precision and ensures that the final result respects the agreed design.
During this phase, specific pigments and tools are used to introduce the color in a controlled way into the epidermis.
At the end of the session, a joint review is carried out to check the result.
In some cases, it may be necessary to add small details to refine the treatment, such as reinforcing certain areas or balancing the pigment intensity.
This final step ensures that the result is as natural as possible.
The duration of a session depends on the area to be treated, but it usually ranges between one hour and one and a half hours.
Facial treatments such as eyebrows, lips or eyeliner usually require less time than hair treatments, which may cover larger areas of the scalp.
In many cases, a second review session is recommended weeks later to refine the result and ensure proper pigment fixation.
After the session, it is normal for the pigment to appear slightly more intense during the first few days.
There may also be slight swelling or sensitivity in the treated area, which usually disappears in a short time.
As the days go by, the color softens and the result blends naturally with the skin.
The success of a micropigmentation treatment does not depend only on the technique, but also on the prior design and planning process.
For this reason, creating a preliminary drawing before pigmenting is a fundamental part of the treatment. It allows the result to be personalized, avoids errors and ensures that the final result perfectly adapts to each person.
At our Grant Ashley center, this process is carried out with special attention to detail to achieve balanced, natural results adapted to each client's aesthetics.
